Is Your Gift in the Closet?

My husband and I handed him the bag with the two gifts inside. We had saved up all year to buy expensive soccer cleats and a ball, and anxiously awaited our young son’s birthday to see his face when he opened them.

“My ball!” he said as he hugged the first one and started running out the backdoor.

“Wait!” I yelled. “There’s another gift inside the bag!”

“But you need them to play better!” my husband said hoping to lure him back.

“Later!” he responded, uninterested in what we had sacrificed so much to buy.

This experience reminded me how God the Father sacrificed His Most Precious Treasure, Jesus, so that we could have eternal life when we die, but also enjoy an abundant life while we live.

Many of us unwrap the gift of salvation and wait for that day when we take our last breath in this world and transition to eternal life in heaven.

But sometimes we forget that He died for us not to merely survive life, but to live abundantly until He decides to take us Home.

We tuck away this part of the gift in the closet of our hearts and fail to experience the peace, love, rest, and joy He offers, regardless of the circumstances we may face.

So, let’s decide to unlock that hidden closet in our hearts and pull out that gift.

Let’s remove the tape of doubt and unbelief and tear off the wrapping paper of fear so that we can uncover the lavish love of a Merciful Father who gave His All so that we could have it all.

Let us remember that He is not only our Savior, but our Counselor when we don’t know what to do, our Prince of Peace when we are restless, our Provider when we lack, our Healer when we’re sick, our Defender when we’re attacked, our Friend when we’re lonely, our Protector when we’re afraid and much more.

Let’s choose to receive His Present today, not because we did anything to deserve it, but because He says we’re worth it.

I came that they may have life and may have it abundantly. John 10:10CJB
