About

Maria F. Mackay is a writer who fell in love with Jesus on the walking trails.

As a soccer mom of three young children who spent endless hours waiting for practices to end, she decided to put that elusive alone time to good use in a park nearby, combining her love of nature, exercise and some quiet time with the Lord. Unbeknownst to her, those fun jogging sessions became time of discovery. She discovered that the more she ran, the faster she got, the more she thanked and praised God, the happier and more positive her attitude became. She also discovered hope when she felt lost, peace when she was anxious, joy when she felt sad or strength when she had none. Her faith grew stronger as did her body. Since that season as a young mom, she has competed in several half marathons and sprint triathlons.

Now an empty nester, she doesn’t have to drive to soccer fields anymore, but she continues to meet with Jesus on trails, beaches, or anywhere close to nature.

Maria is a mother of three young adults, wife of a doctor and high school sweetheart, a Hospital Administrator, and a Certified Legal Spanish Interpreter. She was born and raised in Honduras and currently lives in Athens, Georgia. She has been writing stories both in English and Spanish for most of her life. Her inspirational stories intertwine her life experiences with humor and optimism. She’s also written a children’s book, Ben and the Happy Sword, about faith, family and the power of words.

Maria’s story can be anyone’s story, because regardless of where you live, what language you speak or what stage in life you’re in, you can discover Jesus in every season.
