The Day I (Almost) Ruined our Vacation
“Let’s go mom, everybody’s waiting in the car!” My daughter tugged on my shorts and pointed to the garage as I checked the white straw bag. “I’m coming honey! I don’t want to forget anything. I just have to check the doors and windows to make sure they’re locked.” I squeezed on to the passenger seat and searched for a place to fit my cargo. Toys, towels, sunscreen lotion and goggles fought for a place in the bag, imitating the children in the back seat. “Relax, honey, you’re too stressed” my husband smiled and stroked the back of my head. “We’re not moving there. You don’t have to pack the…

The Day my Heart Multiplied
“How am I going to do it?” I cried “I don’t think I can handle it!” It was the night before delivering my second child via C-section. Doubts and fears flooded my mind as I held my two-and-a-half-year-old girl. “What are you talking about?” asked my mom. “How will I be able to divide my heart in two now?” I responded. My mother smiled and placed her hand over mine. “Honey, the love in a mother’s heart doesn’t get divided, it multiplies!” Peace invaded my heart and calmed my restless mind. A Smile from Heaven
“Hurry up and pray to Jesus for a wish before midnight!” I said as we followed our New Year’s tradition. Both girls closed their eyes tight whispering with praying hands. “What’d you ask for, what’d you ask for!” they inquired of each other. “I want a Barbie doll house,” said my youngest excitedly. “I want a baby brother!” declared the oldest as she jumped up and down. “What?” I bolted as if stung by a wasp. “Are you sure you don’t want something else, like a puppy, or a fish or a toy?” Putting her hand on her hip she said, “It’s my wish and my prayer to Jesus and…

Is Your Gift in the Closet?
My husband and I handed him the bag with the two gifts inside. We had saved up all year to buy expensive soccer cleats and a ball, and anxiously awaited our young son’s birthday to see his face when he opened them. “My ball!” he said as he hugged the first one and started running out the backdoor. “Wait!” I yelled. “There’s another gift inside the bag!” “But you need them to play better!” my husband said hoping to lure him back. “Later!” he responded, uninterested in what we had sacrificed so much to buy. This experience reminded me how God the Father sacrificed His Most Precious Treasure, Jesus, so…

A Lesson in Love
I grew up surrounded by a large family in a time when life lacked the current technology but overflooded with imagination and simplicity. My childhood was easy and full of everything I needed and wanted. I graduated from high school and went away to college. My younger sister followed a year later and my youngest sister a year after that. My life continued to be carefree and relaxed. I traveled with friends to the beach on Spring Break, attended every concert in the state and shopped at the mall every weekend. Mom and Dad called every Sunday evening. I was quick to tell them every detail about my busy life,…
